Is it worth your money?
I just returned from my trip to Vegas and had a blast with my sister! When we were trying to figure out what to do and where to go, of course, we went to Pinterest. These awesome pictures kept popping up of girls in front of old Las Vegas signs. I did my research and of course, we had to go because it looked like the perfect place to get pictures. Did we get those awesome Pinterest worthy pictures, was it worth it and what exactly was the museum? Keep reading to find out...
Lets start with what is the neon museum? This outside museum opened in 2012 and sits on 2.62 acres. It has a bunch of signs from old casinos and businesses. They are all sitting around laying next to each other. It’s basically a big junkyard of Las Vegas sign history. You can go around and take a look at each sign or you can get an app that speaks of the history of each sign. At night some of them light up! There are two locations, the north gallery and the main collection. I can only speak about the main collection because that’s where I visited. The tickets are $30.00 per person for the regular admission (main collection) and then $24.00 for Brilliant (north collection) which is where their 25 minute light show is. The main collection where I went takes around five to thirty minutes to walk around the whole place depending on how long you take to take it all in. I managed to walk around the circle twice and take multiple pictures of myself and my sister all in twenty minutes.
What you need to know before going! They have a very strict photography policy. You can’t bring a camera and you’re not allowed to video anything. You are allowed to bring your phone and take pictures but of course, you aren’t allowed to touch the signs or go behind the bars. You can check out their full policy at, https://www.neonmuseum.org
How far is the museum from the Las Vegas Strip? We stayed at the Palazzo on the strip and it took us around fifteen minutes by car to get there. I would not suggest trying to walk there. Not only would it be far but It’s in old Vegas and has a lot of homeless around the area.
What’s the address and how do I purchase tickets? We purchased tickets when we got there but you can also schedule tickets through their website here, https://www.neonmuseum.org
Finally, the question you all want to know.. is it worth it? It depends on what you are looking to get out of this visit. If you are a history junkie and want to learn more about the signs then yes it is worth it. If you just want to go there for some epic Instagram photos, it depends on if you think spending $30 on a picture is worth it to you. I wouldn’t go into the museum with high hopes though, to me it was over priced and there was very little to see. I was expecting something a lot grander and I honestly thought the price would be around $10-$15 instead of $30.
Would I go back? Ultimately, I am glad I went because we got some awesome pictures and I got to write this blog post to inform all of you. I would not return though. It’s one of those things when you see it once you don’t need to see it again. I do know they were working on expanding across the street so maybe when that’s done it might be a little bit more worth going. It was a good experience and I got what I wanted out of the visit but let us just say I wouldn’t plan my trip around going to the museum.
Now let’s see some pictures..
